Letter from our Committee:

West Leederville Primary School enjoys a strong parent and community involvement, which is particularly facilitated through the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C). The P&C is made up of an active and productive group of parents who work in partnership with the school and organise educational, social and fundraising activities. It has input into student well-being by supporting the school’s values system.

Parent involvement in the school is active and P&C members are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of school activities to foster a strong sense of community within the school and provide support to teachers, children and other members of the school community.   The WLPS P&C have also negotiated on the school and community’s behalf on many non-funded issues of significance including parent parking on local streets, Kiss n’ Drive, offsite Kindergarten facilities and the Cambridge Street pedestrian crossing.

The various sub-committees include the Uniform shop, Canteen, Grounds, Fundraising and Social Coordinators are also in place for Class-Parent Representatives, School Board, WACSSO, School Ambassador and Football Parking.

The fundraising events have allowed the school to purchase equipment and improve facilities that otherwise would not have been covered in the school’s budget. In recent times significant funds have enabled the purchase of playground equipment, interactive whiteboards, library books, reading books and the funding of staff for specialist educational programs.  We believe that these additional programs and resources enhance your child’s early learning outcomes and contribute to their academic and social accomplishments, both in the short and long term.

All parents, guardians and members of the community are welcome to attend P&C meetings. The meetings are held on Weeks 3 & 8 of each Term in the Library, commencing at 7.30pm. The P&C Newsletter is distributed twice a term via the school email, so we urge you to provide you family’s up to date email contact details to the school, so that you do not miss out on important information.

Research tells us that parental involvement in school has a positive impact on student learning and engagement. The ‘Family-School Partnerships Framework’ developed by the Australian Government identifies the principles for effective partnerships and highlights strategies that schools and families can use to guide and develop partnerships. The framework can be accessed at http://www.familyschool.org.au.

If you are new to West Leederville Primary School we wish you a very warm welcome and if you have already been associated with the school for a while, please consider becoming involved in the P&C – we would love to have you on board!
