Whether you are looking to assist on a regular basis or only have an hour to spare, there are ample opportunities to volunteer your time and skills and contribute to making West Leederville Primary an even better environment for your child!
Below are examples of how you or members of your family (grandparents, relatives & older siblings are always welcomed!) can get involved or you can contact the P&C directly, pop along to a P&C meeting or chat to your Class Representative.
Become a member of the P&C: We meet on a Tuesday evening at 7:30pm on Weeks 3 & 8 of each Term. The meeting is held in the staff room upstairs from library – enter from the steps closest to playground. The P&C coordinate everything from disco’s to funding additional educational programs.
Your P&C makes a difference every year for every child and we are always looking for new members – contact your friendly P&C Secretary to find out more.
Class Representatives: This is a fun and simple way to get involved – this role is easily fulfilled in less than an hour a week and primarily involves sending a weekly or fortnightly email to the class list outlining upcoming school activities (sourced & provided by the Class Rep Liaison) and any news, such as social get togethers and reminders on your class excursions etc. You can also ‘job share’ this role and have help with organising social events with other interested parents in your class! Class Rep’s are primarily responsible for welcoming all new parents, making a class contact list for distribution class families (a great help for birthday party invites!), assisting teachers with parent involvement in class activities, organising class social activities and co-ordinating parent helpers fundraising/school community activities. For more information on becoming a Class Representative, contact the P&C secretary
Dad’s Army: What happens when the Dad’s, Uncle’s, Grand-dads & big brothers of the West Leederville Community get together? Magic!! Or perhaps just lots of invaluable assistance provided to the school. Dad’s Army is a P&C initiative that brings together a bunch of great blokes with a bunch of small to medium sized school odd jobs and the odd (celebratory) BBQ. You don’t need to be particularly skilled to join in, nor do you need to be available all the time – just enthusiastic and able to do lifting when required. Jobs include things like helping to set up the tents at school carnivals, small painting & fixing jobs and other bits & bobs around the school. Contact our P&C Secretary to get involved.
Canteen: Food preparation (don’t worry, it’s good wholesome canteen attire rather than a degustation menu from MasterChef!) and serving the happy hungry horde. Generations of kids recall having their mum, dad or nanna serve them their recess or lunch from behind the little window – you too can be a part of your child’s favourite school memories! Class rosters happen regularly (your Class Rep will advise when your particular class is rostered) or you can pop your hand up for either a one off or regular stint by signing up here. Our Canteen Team are dedicated to helping provide food that is homemade, fresh and healthy to help promote positive food attitudes for healthy growing minds and bodies.
Event Volunteers: Either by assisting the organising committee of particular events or putting your hand up to help on the night! This can be anything from taking tickets at the door, set up, serving drinks at the bar, selling lollies or hotdogs…. the list is as endless as our proposed event calendar! These events raise vital funds for school P&C programs and assets for the school – plus they are heaps of fun. From movie nights to disco’s, from the hotly contested Quiz Night to the Fete, any and all help is gratefully received. Check our Upcoming Events page and register your interest in helping by clicking on the email link.
Uniform Shop: The uniform shop is run by volunteer parents who help to sell the uniforms in the school hall on the first Thursday of every month during school terms. 8.30 – 9.15am plus pack online orders. If you can spare some time to help, please contact us.
Scholastic Book Volunteers: If your child is like mine, these little catalogues warrant a level of excitement that only online shopping addicts may truly appreciate! Giving the gift of reading since we were all children, organisation of the Scholastic program only takes a few hours and much joy. Register your interest here.
Perth Entertainment Book: Dinner? (check) Night Out? (check), School Holidays? (check!) – this fundraising book is the saviour of many and you could help coordinate this lucrative (earning $1700 last year!) fundraiser. As online ordering/digital books have come into play, the selling (mainly done through the class representatives) and distribution of these ‘books of gold’ becomes an easier process each year. Please contact the P&C to register your interest.
Would you like to donate?
Some of our parents find it difficult to find time to volunteer to events or regular activities within the school that contribute to the P&C’s fundraising but recognise the difference that the P&C makes to the quality of additional resources to the education of their child/children. If this suits your family circumstances and you would like to make a contribution to the P&C’s fundraising efforts over and above the annual $60 P&C levy, please feel free to make a direct donation (NB: link for this function will be activated soon!) to the WLPS P&C on behalf of your family here! We thank you for your continuing support of West Leederville Primary.
